August 2022 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

Members highlighted the following upcoming events:

Our featured speakers this month were Giselle Cosentino of Garrett Williamson Farm and Rylan Good of Milton Hershey School, discussing opportunities for children to engage in positive experiences outside of Chester City limits.

Garrett Williamson Farm is located in Newtown Square; its founder was inspired to ensure access to the “country.”

They offer:

  • summer and school year programs for babies through teens

  • employment opportunities for older teens

  • group visits to visit their animals and explore their farm, helping enhance connections between people and the sources of their food

  • partnership with interested organizations to secure funding for busses etc.

  • Oct 15, 2022, 11am-3pm 2nd Annual Harvest Festival featuring hayrides, pumpkin decorating, a straw maze, crafts etc.

The Milton Hershey School, funded by the Hershey Chocolate fortune, is a private Pre-K-12 school and serves as a cost-free, private, coeducational home and school for more than 2,000 children from families of lower income.  

Their cost-free education includes: 

  • Tuition and housing (365 days, if needed)

  • 24/7/365 security

  • All meals and snacks

  • Clothing

  • School supplies and computers/iPads

  • Medical and dental care (including glasses, medications, or orthodontics)

  • Counseling services

  • Tutoring and personal academic assistance

  • All field trips, activities, and equipment (including sports and instruments)

  • Potential to earn up to $95,000 in Continuing Education scholarships
