Jamar Daniels of Amachi made inspiring opening remarks about the value of linking people with available resources to people with various needs.
Stephanie Scappa of the Chester Education Foundation shared a variety of summer opportunities for high school students, who can earn $10.35 per hour for participating in life skills development. Anyone interested should call Elaine Green-Upton at610-364-1212 for information.
Chester Eastside reported that on Saturday, June 26 from 11am- 2pm, they are hosting a Community Fair including a bazaar, food, a tour of the historic St. Paul's sanctuary, COVID EDUCATION and immunizations.

Our guest speaker was Steven Williams, Associate Director of Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool/Youth Development Network (PSAYDN). Here are notes from his very compelling presentation:
American Rescue Plan was signed in March; for PA it means billions of dollars focused on different aspects of the state
Especially education + after school programs
$100 million for out-of-school time programs
PA Department of Education needs to formally adopt the plan for fund allocation
Money to school districts
20% is for mitigating learning loss, schools can be creative about how they want to do that - i.e. partnering with community based organizations
School districts need external support for ways to spend funds
Anyone offering services should reach out to school district, school superintendent to inquire
Programs must be sustainable, highly accountable, evidence-based
While there are guidelines, the programs can still be creative
Sustainable programs are likely to receive money for three or more years, but must reapply with school district

Coming soon via the blast: A study on the returns from money spent on after school programs in PA shows that every dollar spent on programs results in a $6.69 return. This is a statistic that can be included in grant applications and other narratives.
PSAYDN is advocating for a line item in the state budget for after school programs; in CA they put $600 million per year.
