"Goals in Gardens" Continues at Garrett Williamson Farm

On June 11, CUYS visited Garrett Williamson Farm in Newtown Square for the fifth installment of its Goals in Gardens program. These special Soccer Saturdays include free lunch, a nature activity and a care package as well as soccer fun in a special environment.

Boeing generously provides funding for free bus transportation for all interested Goals in Gardens attendees, and The Wawa Foundation covers lunch expenses as part of its support for our sister organization, Youth Development United. YDU is dedicated to providing youth from under-served communities with experiences that inspire them.

At Garrett Williamson Farm, our wonderful hosts Ms. Giselle and Ms. Amanda invited families to taste fresh berries, basil, fennel, collard greens and other garden delights, and to carefully visit the farm’s bee box. Then, everyone had the opportunity to roll newspaper into a potting container, and plant sunflower seeds inside to bring home. The small pot can be planted directly into soil, and the sunflowers can grow six feet or more, giving a beautiful visual reminder of a special day on a local farm.

This event’s care package included soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toilet paper, feminine products and grocery items. Participants were also invited to select fresh produce and new athletic apparel from a shipment sent by Good Sports. Their website explains, “Good Sports drives equitable access in youth sports by working with organizations in high-need communities serving youth ages 3-18. We know that kids who play do better.”

CUYS and YDU appreciate the support of all partners and individual donors who make events like these possible. To help support future opportunities for the children of greater Chester, please visit https://cuys.org/donate
