This summer, CUYS brought soccer and Kung fu training to the summer programs at Chester Charter Scholars Academy, the Boys & Girls Club of Chester, Harris Elementary and the Better Tomorrows program at the Chester Apartments, and hosted opportunities for families to also participate in art, dance, bowling and mini-golf through sister organization Youth Development United.

The summer schedule concluded with a three-day camp at Main Street Elementary featuring soccer and nature club, as well as healthy dinners for all participants. Penn State Extension and Delaware County 4-H led the environmental science series where participants learned about the importance of stormwater management, reusing and recycling materials, and the effects of invasive species on our ecosystems.

Administered in Pennsylvania by Penn State Extension, 4-H is a nonformal educational youth-development program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that helps young people develop knowledge and skills to become capable, caring and contributing citizens. To find your local program, visit the Penn State Extension website at https://extension.psu.edu/programs/4-H.

Ms. Lauren and Ms. Fely from Penn State Extension - Delaware County’s 4-H Youth Development run a nature club activity. One attendee said her favorite part was “using a sponge to absorb water just like a plant does.”

Evoni Story, Social Service Coordinator for the Better Tomorrows program at Chester Apartments, reflected on the summer program provided by CUYS. “It was great! The kids truly LOVED soccer.  They also enjoyed learning Kung Fu with Sifu Fred. We can't thank you enough for everything!!!”
