Chester’s Mentoring Initiative
September Meeting Highlights
Matt Krouse, Deputy District Attorney at the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office and member of the Gun Violence Task Force, gave an overview of the Chester Partnership for Safe Neighborhoods violence reduction program.
The program is based on research that shows a large proportion of violent crime is perpetrated by a small number of individuals. Professionals focus on individuals identified as being at high risk of shooting or being shot, and offers them jobs, job training, housing, legal services, trauma therapy, free food and toiletries - whatever they need to get on a better path. The program essentially communicates to them “If you let us, we will help you. If you make us, we will stop you.”
