Fall Soccer Season Kicks Off!
Chester Upland Youth Soccer has kicked off its Fall 2020 season.
Nearly 100 children from the Chester Upland School District have registered, and most have already collected their kickoff kits. Each contains a soccer ball, ball pump, soccer journal and writing utensils, plus additional art supplies. Free groceries, donated by Lifewerks, have also been made available to families picking up the kickoff kits.
The registered players have been divided into nine teams for the fun online Soccer for Success sessions which will take place on Zoom three times each week until Christmas break. Students from Widener University and Swarthmore College are serving as volunteer Coach-Mentors, providing supportive and fun engagement for the kids as they teach soccer skills and healthy lifestyle habits.
"COVID-19 may be restricting our ability to play traditional soccer together, but we are all doing our best to come up with creative solutions for this unique situation," commented CUYS Program Manager Oliver Steinglass, who joined CUYS in August as an Americorps Up2Us Coach. His stipend was made possible in part by a grant from CCRES.
CUYS has some additional fun activities in the works for the season including a November 6th online dance party.
