During winter break this year, we had the unique opportunity to offer a four days of special programming via Zoom. On Monday and Thursday we had art class with Coach Oliver, and on Tuesday and Wednesday Coach Jamie showed the kids a series of fun science projects! During the art class the kids drew a lot of pictures, including their hopes for 2021, and learned how to make paper snowflakes.

For the STEM portion of programming, middle schooler Jamie Taub led a virtual science class for the budding scientists of CUYS. Jamie walked the group through several different experiments using candy, food dyes, dish soap, and other reactants, and created an amazing lemon volcano!

All of the kids who participated in the winter break programming received an art kit and a STEM science kit along with a shipment of free groceries. These much-appreciated gifts were funded by Jamie’s generous family and friends in honor of his upcoming Bar Mitzvah. CUYS invites others celebrating special occasions to email jeannine@chesteruplandyouthsoccer.org to coordinate a partnership that suits them.

Check out Jamie’s STEM experiments on video below.
