CUYS Adds to Fun at Delaware River Festival

Chester Upland Youth Soccer was one of many attractions at Chester’s recent Delaware River Festival. Soccer fun took place in the beautiful green space outside Subaru Park Stadium, home of the Philadelphia Union, with a great view of the river. Other activities included divers in the river, tours of the Philadelphia Union's garden, hands-on water testing experiments and other science presentations for kids, community-based vendors, CMP Radio, local DJs, dance teams and a COVID-19 vaccination station where 30 people were vaccinated during the event.

The program was coordinated and supported by a variety of local organizations including the Riverfront Alliance of Delaware County, a consortium of businesses and non-profit groups working together to implement physical, economic, and social programs to stimulate the development of the Delaware County waterfront.

According to Lisa Gaffney, Executive Director of The Riverfront Alliance of Delaware County, “RADC was pleased to work with a number of Chester-based organizations on the Delaware River Festival. Providing programming and encouraging residents to spend time along the Delaware River is a part of RADC’s Master Waterfront Plan and we look forward to future activities and improvements making it easier for the community to access the waterfront.”

Jamar Daniels, Program Manager of Amachi Chester and member of Chester Shade Tree Commission, played an important role in helping the event convey the spirit of Chester and showcase its community groups. He explained, "The goal was to bring attention to the development of the waterfront as a place for the community to gather. Our commission works to make the city more horticulturally and aesthetically appealing, with a big environmental focus. We had a lot of interest among those wanting to exhibit and actually had to turn groups away, but we look forward to supporting more such events in the future."
