Swarthmore Women's Soccer Hosts a Week of Fun for CUYS

The Swarthmore College Women’s Soccer team created three exciting opportunities for Chester Upland Youth Soccer players in connection with their annual Fall Break community service efforts.

On Sunday, October 10, the team hosted a clinic at its stadium, Clothier Field. One attending parent commented afterward, “My son had a great time at the event. He tends to be nervous when meeting new people, and he said that as we were approaching the field. The college players did a great job helping him relax and have fun.”

On Sunday, October 17, Swarthmore Women’s Soccer led CUYS’ first-ever “Clean-Up and Kick-Around” in the outdoor spaces around Eddystone Elementary School. The team’s Community Service Leader Allie Zitelli reported, “We collected litter and helped maintain the vibrant atmosphere that the students and faculty create at Eddystone. Afterward, we played small-sided soccer and passed around while getting to know the participants. It was fantastic to get the ball rolling and build bonds with the families as we look to plan more soccer and mentorship events in the future.”

On Wednesday, October 20, CUYS players enthusiastically served as ball-chasers on the sidelines while the Swarthmore College Garnet beat its opponent 2-1 in double overtime. CUYS Site Director Crystal Brooks remarked, “We had a blast at the college game. Our name was announced and we felt like celebrities!”

CUYS always welcomes the opportunity to interact with impressive role models like the women of Swarthmore College Soccer. Please email us to get involved.
