CUYS Players Earn Trophies at Camden Soccer Day

Chester Upland Youth Soccer was invited to participate in Camden’s inaugural Soccer Day at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, an impressive community center outfitted with all sorts of recreation facilities including an indoor water park.

Soccer players enjoyed complimentary training and spirited competitions, and were given an assortment of great gear. Children on winning teams earned small trophies to take home.

CUYS was represented by a number of families as well as four long-time teenage volunteer coaches, some of whom participated in the program as young children themselves. Many rode the team bus generously sponsored by Boeing, a new supporter of CUYS interested in broadening access to opportunities for the children of greater Chester.

One family member in attendance, Michelle Beverly, reported, “It was a very nice outing. A lot of kids turned out. They enjoyed playing soccer and then were able to go indoors to swim. They also had food, drinks and snacks and a clothing giveaway. It was put together very well and was a very nice day.”

The event was coordinated by the Soccer for Success team at the Camden City YMCA in cooperation with the Kroc Center.

The U.S. Soccer Foundation developed the Soccer for Success program to use soccer as a means for positive social change. The Foundation partners with community-based organizations like Chester Upland Youth Soccer and the Camden City YMCA to provide children facing social and economic barriers with easy and affordable access to quality soccer programs that support their physical and personal development.
