CUYS Volunteers Help Lifewerks Distribute Food to 100+ Families at Partner Schools
Lifewerks’ food pantry, located at The Foundry Church in Wallingford, has been a longstanding partner of CUYS, providing healthy groceries and snacks for the children to bring home from soccer practice for many years. This week, the collaboration continued as CUYS volunteers helped the Lifewerks team sort and load food donations.
CUYS arranged for its partner schools Chester Charter Scholars Academy and Eddystone Elementary to receive large shares of the donations in order to support over 100 families in their communities.
Joanna Stevens, who helped deliver food to Eddystone, remarked, “It was a great relay of helpers. By the time I joined in, volunteers had organized each delivery on pallets, another team helped my daughter Audrey and me load our car, and, when we arrived at Eddystone, two educators helped us to unload.”
Shortly after Joanna left the school, Ms. Crystal Brooks of Eddystone Elementary reported, “Already snacks were taken by the nurse for our school diabetics, our guidance counselor set aside snacks for kids who don’t bring their own to school, and we are making boxes to distribute to families who we know are in need. Thank you!”
Volunteers at this event included members of the Almonte, Anckaitis, Brody, Gebhardt, Laviola, Lund, Molloy, Mudrick, Pickup, Selby, Stevens, Taub, Tolson and Waxman families.
