DICK'S and CUYS Team Up Toward Goals
DICK'S Sporting Goods and The DICKS Sporting Goods Foundation have set a goal: "To help give one million kids the chance to play by 2024." As part of that admirable goal, DICK'S is generously supporting Chester Upland Youth Soccer's efforts to bring soccer to the under-served children of Chester, Upland and Eddystone, PA.
Research by the 2017 National Council for Youth Sports shows, "Young athletes do better in school, devote more time to studying, think more about their future, aspire to attend and graduate college, and have lower suspension and expulsion rates."
This is an especially important to time to increase access to physical activity, as many children gained an unhealthy amount of weight and didn't get enough exercise since the pandemic began, as reported at https://cuys.org/latest-news/2021/6/10/pandemic-era-unhealthy-weight-gain-in-children-documented-in-cuys-health-survey and elsewhere.
DICK'S is making a $7,500 contribution to CUYS's 2021-22 season, following its $6,000 grant for the previous year, as described at https://cuys.org/latest-news/2020/10/16/a-grateful-fund-raising-update
DICK’S Community Marketing Manager John Kramer added, “The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation is pleased to be able to support CUYS in the pursuit of providing sport based programming for the youth in the Chester Upland community. We at DICK’S Sporting Goods really do believe that Sports Matter.”
