Double Dutch Lessons Get Soccer Saturday Crew Jumping

This weekend’s Soccer Saturday featured a number of very special guests: the Delco Philly 40+ Double Dutch Club! These friendly, dynamic women brought jump-ropes, hula hoops, music and a tremendous amount of positive energy to Chester Upland Youth Soccer’s event.

Captain Amy Skipper explained, “The 40+ Double Dutch Club was started in Chicago by two women named Pamela and Catrina, and now has traveled to many states. We meet every Saturday at 1pm at John Heinz Park, 8601 Lindbergh Blvd in Philadelphia and every 2nd & 4th Tuesday 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Darby Recreation Center, 1022 Ridge Ave in Darby. We are a group of women age 40 and above who get together to relive old memories and create new ones while jumping Double Dutch and inspiring them in friendship, fitness, fun, and fellowship.” Visit https://www.40plusdoubledutchclub.com/ to learn more.

On Saturday, participating families enjoyed a demonstration of Double Dutch talent, free jumping lessons and useful giveaways including sports bras provided by Good Sports, toiletries, healthy groceries, school supplies and a pizza lunch. Additionally, the Kara Barnard Youth Literacy Fund, assisted by The Community’s Foundation, brought a large selection of books for the children to choose from. The few leftovers were taken to refill local Little Free Library book boxes in the neighborhood.

Coach Titus Robinson led the group for the soccer portion of the day, which was enthusiastically enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Later he remarked, “I’m glad I was able to be a part of this great day.”

I think everyone else in attendance agrees!

Future Soccer Saturday events will tie in with the Delaware River Festival, Goals in Gardens at Wallingford Community Art Center and Party in the Park celebrating the new playground at Sun Village Park. More details on these and other special events can be found at https://cuys.org/soccer-sat-2022
