"Better Tomorrows" Camp Includes Soccer with CUYS

In Chester Upland Youth Soccer's attempt to bring exercise and soccer fun to as many children as possible this summer, the organization has teamed up with Chester Apartments' Better Tomorrows Camp.

Program Manager Oliver Steinglass is working and playing with the children alongside camp staff for five one-hour sessions throughout July and early August.

Each week of the camp, CUYS Site Director Yolanda Jackson is bringing grocery donations graciously provided by Lifewerks in order to further support participating families.

Additionally, CUYS connected Better Tomorrows with the Kara Barnard Youth Literacy Fund so that they can secure book donations for the children to enjoy during their time off the soccer field.

According to Evoni L. Story, Social Service Coordinator for Better Tomorrows,  "Our kids are very excited to learn soccer and have yet another caring mentor in their lives. The families we work with are also grateful for the donations of groceries and books that are coming along with Chester Upland Youth Soccer's program."

A springtime CUYS study documented parents and guardians' concerns about unhealthy weight gain and inactivity among children during the pandemic. CUYS is inspired to bring soccer to as many children as possible this summer as a result. The organization has also partnered with Chester Eastside, Knowledge Points, Making a Change and other organizations to make soccer a part of their programs as well.
