Summer Soccer Begins; Includes Donations from The Sports Bra Project
In partnership with Making a Change Group, Chester Upland Youth Soccer staffers and volunteers led 35 children aged three through fourteen through soccer training and scrimmages at Upland Park on Thursday, July 8. Participants went on to enjoy a picnic dinner, a magician, a kickball game and other family fun.
The Connected Visions Family Summer Program will continue each Thursday through August 19th. Soccer takes place from 3:15 till 4:45 each week. Bussing is available. For more information or to register, email info@makingachangegroup.org
CUYS staffers and volunteers then hosted another soccer event from 6 till 7pm in the athletic fields behind Chester Charter Scholars Academy. This event will continue weekly on Thursdays through August 12, for children who can’t make it to Upland Park.
All are welcome to attend either or both events, and there is no charge.
Whenever possible, Chester Upland Youth Soccer will bring donations of books, groceries and athletic apparel for distribution to participating families. At the July 8 event, women and girls were each given an important piece of athletic equipment donated by The Sports Bra Project. The impactful organization increases access to sports for women and girls by removing barriers to participation, and provided 50 sports bras for distribution in this initial demonstration of partnership with CUYS.
