The Community's Foundation Connects Generous Locals to Eddystone Soccer
Costs seem to be rising for all products and services, and yet it is more important than ever for kids to have worthwhile extracurricular opportunities. As Chester Upland Youth Soccer faced economic challenges supporting the growing soccer program it runs at Ridley School District’s Eddystone Elementary School, the thoughtful people of The Community’s Foundation offered to reach out to the local community to invite sponsorships.
Five generous institutions stepped up, delivering a total of $3,600 to the program.
Metropolitan Communications, Inc., St. James Catholic High School Alumni Association and Aero Aggregates of North America LLC all contributed as Team Sponsors, while Joseph E Sucher and Sons, Inc and Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Foundation both committed funds as Player Sponsors.
"We extremely grateful for each business that chose to sponsor Soccer for Success, through TCF's Eddystone Youth Fund. They are helping to grow and sustain a program that is helping the young people excel on and off the field," commented Heather Finnegan, President & CEO of The Community’s Foundation.
The Eddystone soccer program grew from 35 students in the Fall of 2019 to a remarkable 122 for the current Spring 2022 season. Beloved teacher Crystal Brooks serves as the soccer program’s Site Director, and constructed a clever rotation plan to manage such a large number players.
Eddystone Elementary School is one of six locations where Chester Upland Youth Soccer runs the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s “Soccer for Success” program, which was developed to use soccer as a means for positive social change. The U.S. Soccer Foundation partners with community-based organizations like Chester Upland Youth Soccer to provide children facing social and economic barriers with easy and affordable access to quality soccer programs that support their physical and personal development.
CUYS was founded in 2012 by Wallingford resident Brent Jacquette, who at the time served as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Widener University. To ensure the long-term sustainability of Soccer for Success in Chester-Upland and to build upon the momentum of the program, Chester Upland Youth Soccer became a full 501(c)(3) non-profit in the summer of 2017.
