Friends, It’s been a beautiful spring so far, and it’s going by fast! The children we serve have had a blast with Soccer for Success after school, and at the Soccer Saturdays that we’ve hosted so far. Let us know if you’re ever able to join in any of the fun.

Have a special occasion coming up? Please consider following in the footsteps of the Hulnick family, who built a philanthropy project to benefit Chester Upland Youth Soccer in honor of the B’nai Mitzvah of twins Hannah and Andrew. They raised nearly $3,800, ran a very effective snack drive, and hosted a Soccer Saturday that the children of Greater Chester will never forget. Read more about it here.

Looking ahead to the summer, we are finalizing plans to keep the [soccer] ball rolling. We expect to work in partnership with Chester Charter Scholars Academy, the Boys & Girls Club of Chester and Making a Change Group in order to help keep kids active and positively engaged with our Coach-Mentors throughout the summer months.

Beyond soccer, we have created Youth Development United to host educational programs and fun opportunities like kung fu lessons, running clubs and career discovery activities for the children and families in our program.

It has been our honor to receive media coverage for the work we do, most recently in the form of a profile in Eastern PA Youth Soccer Association’s magazine, Touchline.

Never hesitate to let us know if you have suggestions for helping us to make an even bigger impact in the community. We gratefully welcome your feedback and insights, as well as donations of time or money here.

Meanwhile, please scroll down to enjoy reading more highlights of our recent work that your support makes possible.

“Goals in Gardens,” Chapter Four

In April, we explored the Willows Park Preserve mansion and pond edge before playing soccer and having a picnic lunch in the meadow. Families expressed a lot of gratitude for having the opportunity to spend a beautiful spring day enjoying one of Delaware County’s most scenic parks and watching their kids have fun developing their soccer skills. Special thanks to Boeing, who graciously covers the costs of our special event busses. Read more and suggest our next Goals in Gardens destinations.

CUYS Engages Kids in Winter Soccer and "Winter Wellness" Program

For the first time in our history, after-school soccer continued through the winter at Main Street Elementary, led by the beloved Ms. Jackson, Coach Tamia and Coach Tiaira. The group trained outdoors whenever possible, but sometimes snowfall brought them inside where they made the most of their gym space.

Meanwhile, over at Eddystone Elementary, we piloted a new “Winter Wellness” program that included healthy kitchen fun, yoga, and art therapy. This program, deemed a great success, was made possible by Chester Upland Youth Soccer’s new sister organization, Youth Development United.

School Holiday Zoom Camps Engage Dozens During Quiet Days

During spring break and winter vacation, our Zoom camps provided structured and educational fun – including a goody bag delivered to each campers’ home with the needed materials for all of their Zoom activities (plus some extra treats!)

Fall 2021 Participants Report on Impact of Soccer for Success

At the conclusion of each CUYS “Soccer for Success” season, our Site Directors conduct a post-season survey to measure emotional, social, and behavioral changes in participants.

In our post-season survey for Fall 2021:

91% of respondents agreed with the statement: "After participating in Soccer for Success, I feel better about myself."

94% agreed with "After participating in Soccer for Success, I enjoy working with my teammates more."

91% agreed with: "After participating in Soccer for Success, I try harder to stay away from violence and fighting."

97% agreed with: "After participating in Soccer for Success, I want to participate in more sports and activities."

Please help us continue our good work!
