Soccer Clinic and Shoe Giveaway at CU School District Event

On Saturday, April 15th , Chester Upland Youth Soccer partnered with the brothers of Widener University’s Chapter of Phi Delta Theta to add to the success of the Chester Upland School District’s Mental Health and Wellness Summit at STEM Academy in Chester, PA.

"Our family events intend to bring the community together for positive experiences, and we are grateful to have Chester Upland Youth Soccer and its volunteers as partners in our work,'“ noted Claudia Avarette, Chief of Staff for the Chester Upland School District.

CUYS also supported CUSD family summits in November 2022 and April 2021 as well as CUSD’s Career and Services Fair in May 2022.

This spring’s Summit provided families and students the opportunity to learn about available resources and connect with local vendors. CUYS helped bring In Ian’s Boots to the event and assisted in their shoe giveaway. Ron Miller and Holly Wastler-Miller co-founded the organization in memory of their son, Ian Miller. Their website reads: “There are many people facing serious economic trials in their lives and can not afford to buy footwear for themselves or their families. We are here to help!”

CUYS and its volunteers also hosted a soccer clinic at the STEM Academy event. “We reviewed the basics and ended with a fun scrimmage,” reported Leo-Paul Wahl, the CUYS volunteer Coach-Mentor and fraternity brother who coordinated the group’s participation on this special day for all.

Leo-Paul has been on CUYS’ staff since 2019 and shared some reflections about his experience in December 2021. Email jeannine@chesteruplandyouthsoccer.org if you would like to join the team and share in the fun.
